So, when I walked out of my apartment this morning it was cold, grey, and threatening to rain. The STP lyrics "So much depends on the weather" popped into my head as I vowed not to let the wrist slittingly horrible weather ruin my day. Not five minutes later, a morning radio team whose name I cannot currently recall informed me that today was scientifically proven to be the most depressing day of the year. They attribute this to nation-wide bad weather, the holiday credit card bills rolling in, and the likelihood that you've already broken many (if not all) of your New Year's Resolutions.
Well, that makes sense to me. They continue to enlighten me that it is also National Hugging Day. Wait. What? How can it be the most depressing day of the year if everyone's huggin' on each other?
A couple hours later the FOH staff starts rolling in, mopey and complaining about the weather. I share the interesting/depressing new fact I learned. I follow it with the good news that it's also National Hugging Day!
We spent the rest of the shift joking that people were too depressed to tip, use common sense, flush, etc.
I only got one hug- my delivery driver gave me a good bear hug when he left. Which was nice, but I guess also pretty depressing. Only one hug on NHD. Better than none, I suppose.
Turns out it was also Martin Luther King Day. Hmm.
